Two and the Machine: Michele Tedesco and Gian Ranieri Bertoncini
A project where human and artificial intersect, moving along paths that lead to surprising discoveries. A lively dialogue between man and machine, between creativity and technology, in the constant fusion of three entities: two organic musicians and a digital sound emitter.
Twenty-ninth production for nusica.org, a cultural association that promotes and supports innovative artists.
The new work by Michele Tedesco and Gian Ranieri Bertoncini is set to release on May 18, 2024. The album is preceded by the release of the single “Plastic Noodles,” available from May 10.
The latest work by musicians Michele Tedesco and Gian Ranieri Bertoncini, to be released on May 18 by the music label nusica.org, is a reflection on the digital soul. The title, Two and the Machine, encapsulates the essence of a project aimed at musically exploring the relationship between human creativity and the machine’s work, in the fusion of components that impose a balance between improvisation and established paths. The gaze of the two musicians thus merges with the possibilities offered by a digital sound emitter, giving life to a magma of suggestions and sounds in constant evolution, almost a programmatically endless journey.
At its core is the desire to investigate affinities and differences, to probe the developments of a never unambiguous encounter, where man is forced to come to terms with the machine’s extremely swift ability to generate its personal coded material. At the same time, the machine will have to adapt to the neural processes of living beings who find emotional rationality in pursuing a path composed of a few meticulously explored elements. The result is a multifaceted mosaic, where the man-machine dialogue unfolds in streams of shifting motifs, constantly enlivened by improvisation and a music that combines sensations and images, in a succession of emotional flashes. The twelve tracks that make up the album move on the edge of visionary, with evocative titles like “Asymptotic Path,” “Plastic Noodles,” “Walking on the Spoon,” representing the stages of a journey that crosses genres, transcends them, and nullifies them, in the awareness of the flexibility of existence, of a time that changes its coordinates and requires us to step out of categories, to tear down the barriers already set up by others.

From a compositional perspective, his early productions are inspired by a post-bop character, then moving towards compositions with an increasingly felt contrapuntal scheme, fused with both acoustic and electric sounds, with an almost constant inclination towards serial and atonal music, stemming from a passion born during his piano studies for composers like Arnold Schoenberg, Alban Berg, and Anton Webern.
